A typical administrative space
The Municipality Building, together with the Cultural Center just opposite, dominates the town center and may be considered the two most significant public buildings in this small town.
Architecture
The Municipality Building was built in 1960 in the style of social realism (soc-realism), the dominant architectural style of that time. The main features of the building are the simplified forms and the absence of ornamental elements, in line with the trend “practicality over beauty”.
Conceptually, the building has all the features of an administrative space: offices, a meeting room and a large assembly hall. Supporting but inseparable features are the corridors with a staircase facing the street and illuminated by a glazed skylight, and sanitary facilities on all floors.
Adaptations
Later on, in the late 1980s, an additional floor was added to the east part, and a hipped roof replaced the original flat roof. Moreover, the entrance was extended to emphasize the staircase. The building assumed its current appearance in 2006, when adaptations were carried out to improve energy efficiency.
