Regional eclecticism
The Community Center in the village of Petrlas is located in the centre of the village of Petrlas, a livestock agricultural settlement, located 11 km from Dimitrovgrad. The architectural design of the building constructed in 1949 is regional eclecticism, with rustic wall finishings and a classical organization of space.
In terms of design, the Community Center has a spacious hall with a stage and ticket office, a reading room, a shop and the office of the agricultural community. These facilities are characterized by the absence of sanitary facilities, which is a clear indicator of the backwardness of the Yugoslav countryside. At the same time, it highlights the priorities of the state, putting issues of mediating its ideology before issues of hygiene standards.
In fact, a porch with four massive masonry pillars emphasizing the entrance of the Community Center suggests the importance of the socialist regime. Moreover, in the extension of the entrance part, there is a spacious hall with a raised stage, while the crown of the building is ornamented with a profiled decorative strip.
