November 2025

In the 1930s and 1940s, the mining town of Niccioleta grew at a quick pace. However, in June 1944, the community experienced its darkest days: eighty-three miners were killed in one of the most brutal massacres carried out by the Nazi-Fascists in Italy. The massacre took place when peace seemed close, at the moment of the enemy's retreat. For those who remained, nothing would ever be the same again.

In the broadcast show on Thursday 6 November 2025 at 1.15 p.m. on Rai3 and at 8.30 p.m. on Rai Storia, Paolo Mieli and the historian Isabella Insolvibile shed light on an episode in our history that has remained in the shadows for a long time, while Carla Oppa visits places of historical interest among the remains of the mining facilities.
