Fascist party building and Yugoslav cinema

The former Fascist party building (Casa del Fascio) reflects the Italian avant-garde rationalism of the 1930s, with pure geometric forms and flat roofs. During the Yugoslav period, the JNA (Yugoslav People’s Army) built an outdoor cinema in the courtyard of the Casa del Fascio.

New cultural uses

Today, the interiors are inaccessible and abandoned. However, the cinema in the courtyard has recently been restored for the use of contemporary film screenings (‘Cinema LA’ and ‘Kino Mediteran’). The project Javna multidisciplinarna infrastruktura “Augusta Insulae”, in cooperation with the Mediterranean Film Festival of Split, organizes screenings of selected films from the festival in Split. Moreover, the open space will also be used for other cultural and artistic events, such as concerts and artistic performances. The aim is to create a new multidisciplinary infrastructure for the cultural and historical landscape in Uble.
